Restoring data from a backup copy

Use the Restore Data from Backup icon to load data into Sage 300. You can:

  • Restore Sage 300 data that you backed up previously.
  • Refresh your sample data.

Only the Sage 300 administrator (ADMIN user) can back up data or restore data from a backup copy.

Warning! Restoring data from a backup deletes any existing data in the target database before restoring the backed-up data.

Do not restore data that was backed up from a database that is larger than the size limit set by your Sage business partner. Trying to do so will corrupt your database.

To restore your data from a backup:

  1. Make sure no users are logged in to your company database.
  2. On the Sage 300 home page, click Restore Data from Backup.
  3. Click Set Directory, and then specify the folder that contains the DCT file for the extracted (backed-up) data you want to restore.

Note: The DCT file is a control file. The extracted data is in a subfolder with the same name as the DCT file.

  4. Select the first dataset that you want to restore, and then click Next.

You can select, in turn, each of the datasets you want to load (for example, a company and then a sample dataset).

  5. Select the target database, and then click Next.
  6. On the screen that appears, check that the datasets and destination are correct.
    1. To specify another dataset, click Next, and then repeat steps 4 and 5.
    2. Click Finish to load the selected datasets.

Note: If the target database already contains data, the application warns that existing data will be overwritten. Check that you are loading the data into the correct location, and then click OK or Cancel.

  7. When loading is finished, click Cancel to end the session.
