Data Entry Tools, Shortcuts, and Guidelines
Sage 300 Payroll data entry windows contain many aids to data entry which you can activate by selecting from a menu command, pressing a function key on your keyboard, or clicking an icon.
Using the Keyboard to Move Between tabs on a Window
To use the keyboard to move from one tab to another, press the Alt key on the keyboard and the letter that is underlined on the tab's name. For example, on the Payroll Employees window, you can move to the Pay tab by pressing the Alt and Y keys on the keyboard.

Other Guidelines for Data Entry
Clicking the
button on applicable windows will display a dialog box that allows you to search drives and directories for the file you want.You can change the order in which columns display on many Sage 300 Payroll windows.
For example, you can change the order of timecard data entry columns to match the field order of the source document from which you are entering data.
To move a column
- Point at the column heading.
- Hold down the left mouse button.
- Drag the column to its new location.
- Release the button.
To restore your original settings
- From the Sage 300 Payroll Desktop menu bar, select the icon for the window you changed, then click Object > Restore Defaults > All Other Settings. The columns will be in the original order the next time you open the window.
- Within the window you changed and wish to restore, right-click on the column heading and select Restore Defaults. The columns will immediately return to the original order.
Double-click on the division between columns to resize the left column to its minimum size based on the contained data.
To change the width of columns

Position the mouse cursor on the vertical line separating a column heading from the next heading to the right. (The cursor changes into a double-arrow vertical line.)

Drag the column to the right (to make the column wider) or to the left (to make it narrower).

When you reach the width you want, release the mouse button.
To restore your original settings
Within the window you changed and wish to restore, right-click on the column heading and select Restore Defaults. The columns will immediately return to the original order.
To hide a column you do not want to see, do either of the following:
- Position the mouse pointer on the heading of the column to hide, right-click then choose to Hide the column.
- Position the mouse pointer on the vertical line that separates the column heading from the next heading to the right. The column width symbol (a double-arrow vertical line) displays. Drag the column width symbol to the left until the column is no longer visible. To display the column again, drag the symbol back to the right.
To restore columns to their original places, right-click any column heading and choose Restore Defaults.

Tabs on a Window
Some windows, such as the Payroll Employees window, contain tabs.
To move from one tab to another while working within a window:
- If you use a mouse, click the tab with your mouse cursor.
- If you use a keyboard, press Alt + the underlined letter in the tab name. For example, to move to the Other tab on the Employee window, press the Alt and H keys.

Using the Keyboard to Move from Field to Field
To use the keyboard to move from one field to another, press the Tab key on the keyboard.
Data Entry Table on a Window.
Some windows, such as the Pay tab of Payroll Employees window, contain a data entry table. You can enter data directly, or highlight a line, and press F9 (zoom) to open the detail entry window.
