I/C Assemblies/Disassemblies Screen
Click Delete to delete an unposted assembly or disassembly.
If you have already posted an assembly, it must be costed before you can disassemble the build. (If the status is posted, you must run Day End Processing to re-cost the inventory.)
Click Details to see the assembly numbers and quantities for built components.
The Details button is available when you display a posted assembly that has subassemblies.
When you are finished, click Save or Post.
-
If you click Save, Inventory Control saves the transaction so you can edit and post it later.
The program displays a message with the assembly/disassembly number, and reminds you that assemblies and disassemblies will not be costed until they are posted.
Tip: You can delete a saved (unposted) assembly transaction.
- If you click Post, Inventory
Control posts the assembly/disassembly.
- If Inventory Control uses the option Prompt To Delete During Posting, the program warns you that you will not be able to drill down to the transaction details from General Ledger if you delete the transaction.
- If Inventory Control uses the option to Cost Items During Posting, the program will calculate and update item costs for inquiries, reports, and so on.
- If Inventory Control uses the option to Cost Items During Day End, you must run Day End Processing to update item costs for inquiries, reports, and so on.
Note: You cannot disassemble an assembly until it has been costed.
This button is available only for serialized and/or lotted items.
When you click Serials/Lots, a separate screen appears, which you use to assign serial numbers or lot numbers to the items.
When you are finished, click Save or Post.

Click Verify Quantities to check whether sufficient quantities of component items are in stock.
This button lets you see if you have enough quantity of the item to build the number of master items entered in the Quantity field, and make sure that Inventory Control will allow each component item to be stocked at the inventory location you specified in the Location field.
Press the Tab key to start a new assembly or disassembly using a program-assigned number.
The program automatically assigns the assembly number if you leave "*** NEW ***" in the Assembly Number field. The program-generated assembly number is determined by settings in the I/C Options screen.
You can also enter a assembly number-perhaps based on the date and item number. The assembly number must be unique, and up to 22 characters long to distinguish the new assembly from other existing assemblies.
Assembly numbers can contain letters, numbers, and special characters (for instance, *, & #). Letters automatically appear in uppercase when you type them.
Enter a number or type over the existing BOM number for the bill of material to use for assembling or disassembling units of the master item, or select the number from the Finder.
You can view (and edit) the bill of material that you specify by clicking
the Zoom
button beside the BOM Number field (or press F9) to open the
Bills Of Material screen for the selected master item. Click
Close to return to the Assemblies screen.
If you are disassembling a specific assembly, you cannot change the BOM.
The Build Quantity field displays the build quantity specified for the master item in the Bills Of Material screen. The number you enter in the Quantity field must be a multiple of this number.
You cannot change this field.
If the bill of material contains subassemblies (component master items), you can choose to assemble:
- None. Do not assemble any subassemblies.
- All Component Master Items. Assemble as many subassemblies as are listed in the build quantity for the master item.
- Component Master Items With Insufficient Quantity. Assemble only the number of subassemblies required to complete the master item build quantities. (If enough subassemblies exist, no new ones will be built.)
If the bill of material that you are disassembling contains subassemblies (component master items), you can choose to disassemble:
- None. Do not disassemble any subassemblies.
- All Component Master Items. Disassemble all subassemblies that are listed in the build quantity for the master item.
Note that you can only disassemble components if they were assembled in the particular build that you are disassembling.
Enter the date for the assembly or select it from the calendar (using the calendar button beside the date field).
Inventory Control automatically displays the session date as the default date, but you can change it. (The session date is the date that you entered when you started Sage 300).
You can also enter a separate posting date, which determines the fiscal year and period to which a transaction is posted in the general ledger.
You can change the document date and the posting date, but you cannot directly change the fiscal period.
Enter a description (optional) for the assembly entry, using up to 60 characters.
This description appears with the transaction on the Assemblies Posting Journal.
It can also appear on the G/L Transactions report and in the general ledger batch (if Inventory Control uses Description for the G/L Entry Description field or the G/L Detail Reference field and you do not consolidate general ledger transactions).
If you are disassembling items, you can enter a disassembly cost.
This field displays the name of the person who entered the transaction.
If you are entering a disassembly, select the assembly that you are disassembling in the From Assembly field. Leave the field blank if the From Assembly transaction no longer exists.
Note: If you are disassembling a previous assembly, you can only specify the quantity being disassembled and a disassembly cost.
Enter the code of the inventory location of the component items and the assembled master items, or select the code from the Finder.
Locations in Inventory Control are either physical locations or logical locations.
You can assemble goods only from a physical location.
Note: If the Allow Items At All Locations option is not selected on the I/C Options screen, you can post the transaction only if the specific master item and its components are allowed to be stocked at this inventory location.
This field appears if you are displaying a subassembly for a master item (on multi-level bills of material).
Click the Drilldown button to display the master item that included this subassembly.
Enter the item number of the master item being assembled, or select the number from the Finder.
Note: The program automatically displays a bill of material number in the BOM Number field if you select the item number from the Finder.
If optional fields are set up for use in this type of transaction (applying to the entry as a whole), you can enter information in these fields by clicking the Optional Fields Zoom
button in the top section of the transaction screen.
- Optional fields are available only if you have Sage 300 Transaction Analysis and Optional Field Creator.
- Optional field information can pass to the General Ledger—as long as the optional fields assigned to the transaction screens or transaction details are also assigned to the general ledger accounts.
If optional fields are set up for use in details for this type of transaction, you can enter information in the detail optional fields by selecting the detail line, and then clicking the Optional Fields column heading in the Detail table.
- Optional fields are available only if you have Sage 300 Transaction Analysis and Optional Field Creator.
- If information is entered in optional fields for a transaction detail, Yes appears in the Optional Fields column for the detail.
Optional fields can be set up to automatically contain information. If you have optional fields that are set up this way, Yes appears in the Optional Fields column for new transaction details.
- Optional field information can pass to the General Ledger—as long as the optional fields assigned to the transaction screens or transaction details are also assigned to the general ledger accounts.
Specify the date to which to post the transaction to the general ledger. The posting date determines the fiscal year and period , which you cannot change directly.
In a multicurrency system, currency revaluation also uses posting dates to select open documents for revaluation purposes and, thus, revaluation adjustments are posted to the general ledger in the correct fiscal year and period.
Depending on your settings in the I/C Options screen, Inventory Control displays the session date or the document date as the default posting date.
Note: If you consolidate G/L transactions, the posting date for consolidated entries is the last date of the fiscal period.
If you want to change the number displayed in the Quantity field, type over it. Inventory Control automatically displays the bill of material's build quantity in the bill of material's unit of measure.
Note: The quantity must be a multiple of the number in the Build Quantity field. For example, if the build quantity for the bill of material is 25, then you must specify a multiple of 25 (such as 25, 50, or 75) for the quantity, or the program will not allow you to post the assembly.
Click the Verify Quantities button (or press Alt+V) to check whether sufficient quantities of component items are in stock to build the number of master items you entered in the Quantity field, and to make sure Inventory Control allows each component item to be stocked at the inventory location you specified in the Location field.
The program allows you to post assemblies for which there are insufficient numbers of component items in stock, only if you turned on the Allow Negative Inventory Levels option in the Options screen.
If you did not turn on the Allow Items At All Locations option in the Options screen, you can post the transaction only if you allowed the component items and the master item to be stocked at the specified inventory location.
Enter a reference (optional) for the assembly, using up to 60 characters.
This reference appears with the transaction on the Assemblies Posting Journal.
It can also appear on the G/L Transactions report and in the general ledger batch, if the G/L Reference field or the G/L Description field uses Reference in one of its segments, and you do not consolidate general ledger transactions.
The transaction status can be:
-
Entered (saved but not posted). You can edit and delete a saved transaction. The transaction has not yet updated inventory.
-
Posted. You can no longer edit the transaction, and you cannot disassemble an assembly until it is costed.
-
Costed. The transaction is complete.
Choose either Assembly or Disassembly as the transaction type.
You cannot disassemble an assembly until its status is Costed.
You can edit or delete an assembly or disassembly that has been saved, but not posted (where the status is Entered).
The displayed year and period is determined by the posting date. You cannot change it except by changing the posting date.
