A/R Items Screen

Overview

You use the A/R Items screen to:

  • Create a list of the items you sell, so you can use item numbers when filling out invoice details.
  • Specify the item cost, so invoicing will create transactions for inventory and cost of goods sold accounts.
  • Specify a default distribution code or the particular accounts to update when you use an item in a transaction.
  • Specify the tax authorities and tax classes for items, to simplify tax calculation on invoices.

For more information, see About Accounts Receivable Items.

Item Tab

Use the Item tab to:

  • Enter a commodity code for the item (for VAT reporting).
  • Assign an optional distribution code to identify the general ledger accounts to update when transactions are posted for the item number.
  • Type a comment of up to 256 characters that you can display when entering details for the item number and print on invoices.

Pricing Tab

Use the Pricing tab to:

  • Enter costs and prices for the units in which you sell the item.
  • Enter an alternate tax base amount for items when tax is not calculated on the item price or cost.
  • In multicurrency systems, enter units of measure, costs, and prices for each currency in which you sell the item.

Statistics Tab

The Statistics tab appears only if you selected the Keep Item Statistics option on the A/R Options screen.

Use the Statistics tab to:

  • Enter sales, returns, and costs of goods sold amounts for each unit of measure and year and period in which you have sold the item.
  • Look up the gross margin and quantity sold for the item and unit of measure in the current year to date.
  • Look up the date on which the item was last sold by a particular unit of measure.

In multicurrency systems, item statistics are kept only in functional currency. If you use the same unit of measure for more than one currency, the amounts sold of the unit in each currency are combined in the statistics kept for the item.

Tax Status Tab

Use the Tax Status tab to:

  • Assign the tax authorities and tax classes that are used to calculate taxes when you enter item details.
  • Indicate whether tax is included in the item price in each authority and tax class.
