Inventory Control can validate item number segments when you add new items.
You turn on the option to validate particular segments on the Items tab on the I/C Options screen.
You add valid codes for segments you want to validate using the Segment Codes screen in the I/C Setup folder.
The following table shows how you can set up two segment codes:
(Consecutive Xs denote a segment in an item structure.)

Adding segment codes is optional, as is using them once you have entered them.
Before adding segment codes, you must:
- Add segments to the Options screen.
- Decide which codes to use for each segment. Segment codes can be neither longer nor shorter than the length of the segment for which they will be used.
