I/C Item Structures Screen
The Item Structure field displays a sample item number that uses the format you specified. The sample is updated each time you add a segment to the structure.
If you want, you can select a character from this list to appear at the front of the item structure.
Enter a code of up to six characters to identify the item structure.
To begin adding a new item structure, enter the code for the structure, or click the New icon next to the Structure Code field.
The Total Length field displays the total number of characters in the selected item structure. The number is updated each time you add a segment to the structure. A complete item number can contain up to 24 characters, including separator characters.
Select this option if you want the item structure to be the default item structure that appears in the Items screen when you add an item record to Inventory Control.
This option appears in the Item Structures screen only if you have not selected a default item structure. To change the default item structure, use the Items tab in the Options screen.
You can override the default item structure that appears in the Items screen when you add an item record.
This column displays the number of characters assigned to each of the segments you select for the item structure. (You specify the length of each item segment on the Items tab of the Options screen.)
Select the name of each segment, in the order you want, to use in the item structure.
For each segment, you have the option to select a character from this list to appear at the end of the segment.
In item structures that use multiple segments, separator characters distinguish (visually) the segments from each other.
Overview
You use the I/C Item Structures screen to:
- Specify the length and number of characters in your inventory item numbers.
- Format your item numbers for sorting and grouping items for reports and lists.
You can have as many different item structures as you need to accommodate different item number formats. However, you must add at least one item structure to Inventory Control before you can add item records.
Note: You create item structures from the segments you have added to the Options screen.
