Fiscal Calendar Screen
Click this button to create a new fiscal year.
Click this button to delete the selected fiscal year.
Click this button to save changes you have made to the fiscal calendar.
Validation occurs when dates are entered in transactions, so if users are processing transactions while you are editing the fiscal calendar, those users may not receive any warning about locked fiscal periods, and may be able to post transactions to periods you are trying to lock.
For this reason, we strongly recommend that you ensure nobody else is using the system while you edit the fiscal calendar and lock or unlock fiscal periods.
Select this option to allow posting to the fiscal year. Clear this option to prevent posting to the fiscal year.
Note: Selecting this option does not affect posting to particular periods and programs that you have locked.
Specify a fiscal year, or enter the year when creating a new fiscal year. The current year (based on the session date) is displayed on the calendar.
Select this option to prevent posting to the adjustment period.
- The adjustment period is the period to which you can post year-end adjustments (such as depreciation or bad debts), and it always occurs on the last day of the last fiscal period.
- The Lock Adjustment Period option affects only general ledger entries.
- After you create a new year in General Ledger, you cannot post to the previous year's adjustment period unless the Allow Posting to Previous Years option is selected on the G/L Options screen.
Select this option to prevent posting to the closing period.
- The closing period is the period to which revenue and expense accounts are closed at year end, and it always occurs on the last day of the last period in the fiscal year.
- The Lock Closing Period option affects only general ledger entries.
This field displays the number of fiscal periods on your company's calendar.
Note: The number of fiscal periods is specified on the Company Profile screen. For more information, see Company Profile Screen.
If you use a 13-period ledger, specify the quarter that contains four fiscal periods, rather than three.
Note: You can change this quarter later, although if you do, your previously printed reports may not be consistent with data printed after the change.
The detail table includes a column for each period on your company's fiscal calendar, and a row for each Sage 300 program that is active for your company. If a program is locked for a period (to prevent accidental posting), an X appears in the field for that program and period.
Note: When you create a new fiscal year, all periods are unlocked to allow posting by all programs.
By default, this field displays the end date for each period as calculated based on the number of fiscal periods on your company's calendar:
- 12-period ledger. The default end date of each period is the last day of the month.
- 13-period ledger. The default end date of each period is the last day of each four-week timespan.
You can change the end date for a period. If you do so, the start date for the following period changes automatically.
Select the Lock All option to lock all programs for all periods.To unlock all programs for all periods, clear the Lock All option.
Selecting within the lock row locks the selected program for all periods. These periods can then be cleared individually, or all at once by clearing the lock row.

Overview
Use the Fiscal Calendar screen to:
- Create a new fiscal year for your company.
- Edit the start and end dates of fiscal periods to match the dates your company uses.
- Lock fiscal periods for one or more programs to prevent accidental posting in that program.
- Unlock periods for one or more programs to allow posting to the periods.
- Separately lock and unlock closing and adjusting periods for year-end processing.
Tip: After you create a new year in General Ledger, you can still post to the adjustment period if the Allow Posting to Previous Years option is selected on the G/L Options screen. For more information, see the General Ledger help.
- Prevent posting by any program to any period by making the entire fiscal year inactive.
- Delete old fiscal years.
- All Sage 300 programs that are active for your company use the same fiscal calendar.
- To use the Fiscal Calendar screen, you must have Maintain Fiscal Calendar security authorization.
