The Serial and Lot costing methods are available only if you have a license to use Serialized Inventory and Lot Tracking.
Inventory Control calculates the cost of received items that use the Serial or Lot costing method, as follows:
- The cost per serial number = Total cost for a detail line / Quantity of serial numbers generated for the detail.
- The cost per lot = Total cost for a detail line / Number of lots generated for the detail.
Note: The total cost of a detail line includes any additional costs.
Cost adjustments processed after serialized or lotted items are received also affect the cost of the adjusted serial numbers or lots.
Inventory Control determines the cost of shipped items that use the Serial or Lot costing method, as follows:
- When shipping serialized items, the cost associated with each serial number is the cost of the shipped item (that is, the receipt cost, including any additional costs, plus or minus any cost adjustments for that serial number).
- When shipping lotted items:
- If you ship the entire lot, the cost of the shipment is the total cost of the lot.
- If you ship less than the total lot quantity, the cost of the shipment is the
average unit cost for the lot, multiplied by the number of units shipped.
Example:
Lot 1 Lot Quantity = 100
Total lot cost = $1,000
Average unit cost = $10
If you ship 15 units from Lot 1, the cost of the shipped items is 15 x $10 = $150
Note: For items that use the Serial costing method or the Lot costing method, the serial quantity and lot quantity must always be the same as the entry quantity in transactions. You cannot select the options Allow Serial Quantity To Be Different From The Quantity In The Entries or Allow Lot Quantity To Be Different From The Quantity In The Entries .
