Registering Serial Numbers for Customer Warranties

You can register serial numbers for warranty management purposes when you sell serialized inventory items, or when you receive completed registration forms from your customers.

The inventory item record for each serialized item specifies the type of warranty, and whether to place the item on warranty when it is sold or when it is registered.

Note: You can register warranties only for serialized items.

To register a serial number for warranty purposes:

  1. Open Inventory Control > I/C Periodic Processing > Serial Registration.
  2. Use the Document Type list and the Document Number field to identify the transaction that assigned the serial number.
  3. In the Item Number field, specify the item to which the serial number was assigned.

    You must enter an item number that was included in the specified document.

  4. In the Serial Number field, specify the serial number you are registering.

    You must specify a serial number that was assigned to the item in the specified document.

  5. Click Register.
