Miscellaneous charges are charges added to Order Entry documents for costs other than for items purchased or returned. For example, miscellaneous charges can include postage, shipping, assembly, and restocking charges.
You can enter an invoice that contains only miscellaneous charges.
When you post an invoice that contains only miscellaneous charges, you can specify whether to produce an invoice or post the charge as an order (which you can use later to produce an invoice).
Use the O/E Miscellaneous Charges screen to create miscellaneous charge records for your system.
If you use multicurrency accounting, you must specify a currency code for each miscellaneous charge.
Note: If you want to apply the same charges to customers using different currencies, you must create a separate miscellaneous charge record for each currency. However, you can use the same miscellaneous charge code for each of the currencies.
For each miscellaneous charge, you must also specify the tax authorities that levy taxes on the charge, and the applicable tax classes.
When you add a miscellaneous charge to an Order Entry transaction, Order Entry displays the default description and amount that you specified for the charge on the O/E Miscellaneous Charges screen.
If you edit the description for an individual charge, the new description will appear on order confirmations, picking slips, invoices, and credit notes for that charge. This feature allows you to be very specific in describing miscellaneous charges to your customers.
Tip: When you apply charges to separate invoices (if you partially ship orders and produce partial invoices), all miscellaneous charges on an order will appear on the first partial invoice. If you want to allocate a miscellaneous charge over several invoices, add a portion of the charge as a new detail each time you are ready to produce a partial invoice.
To verify the tax distribution when adding a miscellaneous charge to an Order Entry transaction, click the Distribute Taxes button on the Taxes tab. You can change the tax class and specify whether tax is included in the amount.
When you have finished adding the miscellaneous charge, Order Entry recalculates the order subtotal, and the miscellaneous charge amount is added to the order subtotal.
