Exporting to an ODBC Database

If this is the first time you will export in ODBC format, you will need to create an empty database to use for the export. (Be sure to create it in the database type you use.)

To create an empty database:

  1. Choose ODBC in the Type field in the Export dialog box, then click Browse.

The Select Data Source screen appears.

  2. Click the Machine Data Source tab, then click the New button.

The Create New Data Source screen appears.

    1. Select a data source type, then click Next.
    2. Select a server from the list, then click Next.
    3. Read the message, then click Finish.
  3. The Create a New Data Source to Server screen appears. (Note that the screen title depends on the database type you use; for example, this could be "Create a New Data Source to SQL Server".)
    1. Enter a name and description for the data source, then, from the drop-down list in the Server field, choose a server to connect to.
    2. Click Next and choose the connection, then type a Login ID and a password. (If you are on a network, your network Login ID is the default.)
    3. In the next screen, click the down arrow to choose a different default database from the list.
    4. Accept the other defaults, then click Next to open the next screen.
    5. Click Finish to accept the defaults.
  4. A summary screen appears, informing you that a new ODBC data source will be created, with the displayed configuration.
  5. Test the configuration by clicking the Test Data Source button, then click OK to close the test screen. (Testing is optional.)
  6. Click OK to return to the Select Data Source screen.

The new Data Source you created appears in the list in the Machine Data Source tab.

  7. Highlight the new data source and click OK.

The SQL Server Login dialog box opens.

  8. Enter a Login ID and Password and click OK.

    The Export dialog box reappears.

You have created an ODBC connection, which appears in the field now labeled "Connection."

To export data:

  1. Click OK to begin the export.

When the export is finished, you receive a message displaying the number of records exported.

  2. Click Close in the message. You will be returned to the Export screen.
  3. Click OK to return to the original Sage 300 screen.

You can view files you have exported by double-clicking the filename in the Windows Explorer.
