Signing On and Opening a Company

When you start Sage 300, the Open Company screen appears. You can also open this screen by clicking Open Company on the Sage 300 desktop.

You use the Open Company screen to:

To sign on and open a company:

  1. On the Sage 300 desktop, click File > Open Company.

    The Open Company screen appears.

  2. Depending on the way your system is set up, enter your user ID in one of the following ways:
    • In the User ID field, enter your Sage 300 user ID.
    • If your company allows you to use your Windows user ID to sign on to Sage 300:
      1. Select the Windows Authentication option.
      2. In the User ID field, enter your Windows user ID.
      3. In the Domain field, enter your Windows Domain.
  3. If security is turned on for your Sage 300 system, enter your password.

Your system may be set up to show only companies for which you have security rights. More...

If your system is set up this way:

    • Pressing Tab after entering your password updates the list of companies that are available in the Company field. (Initially, the list of companies includes only companies that do not use security. After entering your password and pressing Tab, the list also includes companies that use security that you are authorized to open.)
    • If you enter your password but do not press Tab, and instead immediately press Enter or click OK, the system tries to open the last company that was opened, which may not be the same one displayed in the Company field. For example:

Suppose you have two companies: Company1 does not use security, Company2 uses security (and you have security rights for it). The last company that was opened is Company2. Before entering your password and pressing Tab, the Company field cannot display Company2, so it displays Company1. You enter your password and click OK. Even though Company1 was displayed in the Company field, Company2 opens.

Tip: To change your password, click Change Password.

For information about setting up security in Sage 300, see Setting Up Global Security and Assigning Users to Security Groups.

  4. In the Company field, specify a company to open. To see a list of companies, click the Company field or press Alt + Down Arrow.
  5. If the session date is incorrect, enter a different date.

Note: The default session date is the Windows system date, unless you entered a date in the future the last time you signed on to Sage 300 — in that case, the future date is the default.

  6. Click OK.
